AIA Group has appointed Edward Moncreiffe as Regional Chief Executive with effect from November 2, 2026. The Hong Kong insurer announced the appointment on October 23. Moncreiffe will be responsible for India, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand, join the Group Executive Committee, and report to Lee Yuan Siong, Group Chief Executive and President. In India, AIA operates through a 49% joint venture.
Moncreiffe joins from HSBC Group, where he was Chief Executive Officer, Insurance. He oversaw life and health insurance across Hong Kong, Macau, mainland China, Singapore, India, Malta, Bermuda and Mexico, along with insurance distribution units globally, after earlier leading HSBC Life in Hong Kong and Macau. His 20 years of leadership span insurance, wealth and strategy roles in the UK, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Beyond his executive roles, he is a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers and represents Asia Pacific on the Executive Council of the International Insurance Society. He holds a BA from Durham University and an MBA from Chicago Booth, and is a Chartered Insurer. Speaking on his appointment, he said AIA’s businesses in his four markets “each have distinct strengths, priorities and opportunities.”

AIA has chosen a leader who already knows these markets well. Moncreiffe oversaw HSBC’s insurance business in India and has worked across Asia and beyond. That experience, together with a seat on the Group Executive Committee, gives AIA’s Indian, Sri Lankan and Australasian businesses a direct voice at the group’s top table.
