The internal promotion, effective immediately, places data strategy under a former cybersecurity chief as the bank expands its use of AI
Standard Chartered has appointed Shebani Baweja as Group Chief Data Officer with immediate effect. Based in Singapore, she will report to Alvaro Garrido, Chief Operating Officer for Technology & Operations and Chief Information Officer for Information Security & Data.
As Group CDO, Baweja will lead the Group Data Office, setting the bank’s data strategy and overseeing how data is governed, managed and used across the organisation. Her remit includes building data infrastructure, embedding consistent practices, and expanding the use of data and analytics to support growth and decision-making.
Baweja joined Standard Chartered in 2008 and has held senior roles across Wealth and Retail Banking and Technology & Operations transformation. Most recently, she was Chief Information Security Officer for Wealth and Retail Banking and International Markets, where she led cyber risk strategy and strengthened controls across the business.
