The Singapore-based appointment, effective July, gives Kuang oversight of regional investment strategy while he continues leading HSBC’s China investment operations
HSBC has appointed Desmond Kuang as Chief Investment Officer for Asia, Private Bank and Premier Wealth, effective 6 July 2026.
Based in Singapore, Kuang will lead regional investment strategy and asset allocation for private banking and premier wealth clients across Asia, excluding Hong Kong, and will sit on HSBC’s Global Investment Committee.
Kuang brings nearly 20 years of experience across asset management, credit research and multi-asset investing. He currently serves as CIO for China and interim head of Wealth and Premier Solutions, China, roles he will retain until successors are named. Before rejoining HSBC in 2022, he held senior positions at Income Partners Asset Management and Goldman Sachs, focused on Asian credit and macro strategies.
“The appointment reflects rising demand for timely and actionable investment insights as wealth expands across Asia,” said Willem Sels, Global Chief Investment Officer.
Kuang will report to Sels and to Ishan Sarkar, Head of Wealth and Premier Solutions, Singapore.
