DBS Hong Kong has appointed Kyle Tan Managing Director and Head of Global Financial Markets, effective 1 September 2026. He’ll also sit on the Hong Kong Management Committee, taking over from Jeremy Kok, who steps into a new role as Head of Group Structuring, Singapore and North Asia Trading. The move deepens DBS’s leadership bench in Greater China at a time when the bank is doubling down on the region.

Tan isn’t new to DBS. He joined DBS China back in 2007 as Head of Trading and rose to Head of Global Financial Markets, China in 2018. From there he moved into an expanded role as Deputy CEO of DBS China, where he grew the franchise, kept performance steady, and navigated some genuinely difficult market conditions along the way. He also had a hand in China’s financial market opening, working on licence applications that widened DBS’s business scope in the country.
“We are delighted to welcome Kyle joining the Hong Kong franchise to lead our Global Financial Markets business,” said Sebastian Paredes, Head of North Asia and CEO of DBS Hong Kong. “His extensive banking experience and deep understanding of China’s financial markets will be invaluable for DBS Hong Kong, as we continue to invest in this key financial hub that facilitates two-way capital flows between China and the world.”
Tan’s career actually started outside DBS, at the Bank of Montreal (China) in 1997, where he made a name for himself in the inter-bank market. He’s also co-authored two books on the internationalisation of the RMB, one in 2013 and another in 2024, reflecting nearly three decades spent watching China’s financial markets evolve up close.
Herald View: DBS is slotting a China-market veteran into a strategically vital Greater China seat as cross-border capital flows accelerate. Promoting from within DBS China’s own ranks over an outside hire signals a bet on continuity and institutional knowledge rather than fresh external perspective.
